Supports Community Productivity, Education, Environment, Culture, Well-Being

Fundación Tropicalia, a nonprofit foundation affiliated with Cisneros Real Estate’s Tropicalia luxury tourism development in the Dominican Republic, today introduced its initiatives in the United States in an effort to encourage corporate social responsibility programs and sustainable development throughout the Americas and beyond.

Fundación Tropicalia, operating in the town of Miches along the northeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, designs and implements programs for the Miches community in four principal areas: education; productivity; the environment; and culture and well-being. The foundation implements high-impact projects in consensus with the local community, and works toward the sustainable prosperity of the region to drive shared value for both Tropicalia and Miches residents.

Tropicalia, the flagship project of Cisneros Real Estate, is a sustainable luxury development that will encompass thousands of acres and miles of coastline on the Dominican Republic’s Bay of Samaná. The project, anchored by a Four Seasons Resort, will set a new standard of natural elegance and simplicity for sophisticated travelers from around the globe. Tropicalia will incorporate rigorous development standards and cutting-edge construction technologies in order to serve as a model for sustainable, environmentally responsible, and luxurious tourism.

Tropicalia will include a 169-key Four Seasons luxury hotel and 46-branded residences designed by Isay Weinfeld; an 18-hole golf course designed by Tom Doak; and a host of amenities including an array of dining options, a spa, cultural center, tennis facilities, and equestrian trails.

Adriana Cisneros, Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of Cisneros, noted that Tropicalia’s business plan has included social responsibility, sustainability and quality of life since its inception. Fundación Tropicalia was founded in 2008, and works in partnership with the Miches community and other institutions from the private, public, civil and academic sectors.

“Tropicalia serves as a model for Cisneros’ commitment to truly sustainable development, with its long-term investment in the community of Miches,” Ms. Cisneros said. “Our programs range from education and conservation to micro- and small-enterprise financing, diversifying agricultural supply-chain production, and cultural exchange programs that enrich the lives of those working and living in the region. We’re committed to the comprehensive development and prosperity of the community, which will in turn help position Miches as a sustainable and environmentally responsible tourism destination.”

The Dominican Republic is the second-largest and most geographically diverse Caribbean country, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south. Tourism plays a major role in the country’s economy, with more than 5 million foreign tourist arrivals a year. The Four Seasons Tropicalia will be the country’s first global luxury resort brand, and it will introduce its guests from around the world to the Dominican Republic’s natural beauty, unique geography and rich heritage.
