Tropicalia: The new standard for sustainable luxury resorts
Cisneros Real Estate is a new division of Cisneros in charge of the development and the strategic positioning of the company´s real estate portfolio, which encompasses commercial, industrial and residential properties throughout the western hemisphere. Cisneros Real Estate is currently developing multiple projects throughout the Americas. Tropicalia, a sustainable luxury resort development on the Bay of Samaná in the Dominican Republic, is the largest such project and will be anchored by a Four Seasons Resort that is currently under design.
Tropicalia, sustainable development
Tropicalia is a long-term sustainable development encompassing miles of the southern coastline of the Samaná Bay in the Dominican Republic. Tropicalia promises to become one of the most luxurious destinations in all of the Caribbean. With an emphasis on low-density, low-impact development in harmony with nature, Tropicalia will be an emblem of sustainable luxury tourism throughout the Americas and the world.
Creating a unique resort experience…
The master plan for Tropicalia calls for a multi-phased development over 30 years, with an initial investment of US $2 billion. The opening of the first resort—in partnership with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts—and the Tom Doak golf course is scheduled to open in 2016. A second property, a boutique and upscale hotel, is being developed together with Auberge Resorts and is planned for a mid-2018 launch.
The project is an important economic catalyst for the Dominican Republic, which welcomes more than four million visitors each year. We anticipate that Tropicalia will create more than 3,000 jobs in its first stage and around 14,000 when fully operational.
…while preserving a special environment
Tropicalia’s holistic approach to development integrates the principles of sustainability, including protection and restoration of the natural environment, preservation of the local cultural heritage, and selection of partners and suppliers based on shared values and a commitment to sustainability.
In line with these principles, in 2008 Tropicalia established its foundation, Fundación Tropicalia, which carries out education, environment, productivity and wellbeing/culture programs that contribute to the socio-economic development and prosperity of Miches, the local community. Furthermore, in 2010 Tropicalia committed to the ten principles of the United Nations’ Global Compact and since then has published two Sustainability Reports to communicate progress regarding their integration into business strategy.
Tropicalia is our most visible hotel and resort project—but not the only one. Cisneros is also focused on developing hotel and resort projects throughout the U.S. and Latin America with high-end global brands.
