(Miami , March 3, 2010) – Venevision International, a global entertainment company of the Cisneros Group of Companies, announces the April 13th release of the distinguished motion picture “Espiral” [Spiral] in DVD format in the United States and Puerto Rico.
“Espiral” [Spiral] stars Iazua Larios and Mayra Serbulo, two talented Mexican actresses who worked in “Apocalypto” (2006), the acclaimed film directed by Mel Gibson; in addition the movie features a special guest performance by the distinguished Aurora Clavel. This motion picture by Jorge Perez Solano was filmed in the district of San Pedro Yodoyuxi in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, from where the director’s family originates.
“The film features great cinematography, in which the countryside, the cemetery, the houses and the arid landscapes are shown in all their splendor. Everyday life, customs and rituals of southern Mexico are also meticulously portrayed.” – published the news agency Associated Press (AP)
“Espiral” [Spiral] is an intense love story that depicts the reality of many immigrants who seek a better life, but end up destroying what they treasure most: their own families. Santiago and Marcario are two men who decide to leave their poor Mexican town in search of a better future across the border, thus leaving behind the women they love, Diamantina and Araceli, who are now forced fend for themselves and their families in order to survive. Upon the men’s return years later, they discover that everything has changed, finding it very difficult to get back what they had once left behind. This film captures the character of the woman who, although abandoned, is determined to persevere without the need of a man.
As the author of the screenplay, Perez Solano was awarded the ‘Proyecto VI Opera Prima’ from the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE) and the University Center of Cinematography Studies (CUEC). “It all came to me from being an immigrant myself, as well as my family. One begins to fantasize, to think what could have been,” said Perez Solano during a press conference following the screening of his film at the VI Morelia International Film Festival (Mexico).
The film’s leading role went to Iazua Larios, who has been involved in the world of art since childhood, undertaking professional instruction in film, theater and dance in Spain, disciplines that today provided her with the elements to be selected for the starring role of this movie in which she portrays two different characters, one being the young Diamantina and the other being her daughter Magdalena, since the film’s plot develops during two distinctive time periods, decades apart.
