(Caracas, Venezuela, April 9, 2010) - Leones del Caracas, the Cisneros Group Company committed to the growth and training of novice local talent, will offer a series of baseball workshops in a joint initiative with UNICEF for children participating in the "Todos Pueden" program from the Social Development Division of the Municipality of Baruta.
In line with the "Todos Pueden," school rehabilitation program developed by the Mayor of Baruta to care for at risk children and adolescents in the popular areas of the municipality, the Leones del Caracas promote the development of life skills, such as communication, leadership, decision making, tolerance and teamwork through sport.
The weekly training sessions, with the participation of children and adolescents from 10 to 15 years of age, in the community of Santa Cruz del Este, will aim to provide the training tools necessary for the development of sports skills that will enable them to make good use of free time, preventing violence, truancy and consumption of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
UNICEF of Venezuela will collaborate through the design of program content and monitoring of the implementation and outcomes of the program in its quest to ensure that children and adolescents are high on the agenda of the National Government and society at large, providing the opportunities that make their full development possible, while achieving social equity, gender and ethnicity.
The launch of the Leones del Caracas social responsibility activity will take place this Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 10 A.M. Children and adolescent participants and their families will join collaborating institutions to conduct this initiative on a day of recovery of the "Antonio José de Sucre” baseball field located in La Ciudadela in Baruta. The Criollitos Corporation of Venezuela provided a location for the workshops.
During the day of renovation of the baseball field, which will feature special guest Marelisa Gibson, Miss Venezuela 2009, along with the collaboration of the Leones del Caracas, the Division of Corporate Social Responsibility of the Cisneros Group, the Criollitos Corporation of Venezuela and the Mayor of Baruta, the common areas will be weeded, painted, and new security and fencing will be installed.
