Miami, Florida (USA) December 11, 2009 – Christmas has come early for Andrea Bocelli, whose Spanish-language edition of his collection of Christmas classics, titled “Mi Navidad,” became the No.1 selling Latin album of the country, according to Nielsen’s SoundScan.
“Following a reprocessing of Nielsen SoundScan sales data for the week ending Dec. 9, Andrea Bocelli is now at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart with ‘Mi Navidad’ (Sugar/Siente Music/Universal Music Latino),” stated an article by Keith Caulfield posted on Billboard Biz. “Initially, Thalia’s ‘Primera Fila’ (Sony Music Latin) was No. 1 with 7,000 in sales, but now the album is found in two different positions on the list. The standard CD-only version is at No. 4 with just under 6,000; while a Wal-Mart exclusive CD/DVD edition with a different tracklist is at No. 20 with a little over 1,000 copies. Originally, sales of both versions were improperly combined, resulting in its No. 1 placing,” explained Caulfield.
As a result of the correction, Andrea Bocelli’s “Mi Navidad” officially claims the No.1 position, while Jenni Rivera’s “La Gran Senora” now debuts at No. 2, and Siente Music’s hot urban music artist, Cosculluela moves up to No.3 with his debut album “El Principe.” Additionally, “Bocelli now tops the Latin Pop Albums chart instead of Thalia. Rivera is still No. 1 on Regional Mexican Albums and Cosculluela is still No. 1 on Latin Rhythm Albums,” concluded the Billboard Biz article.
Andrea Bocelli received the good news while in the middle of his North American concert tour, which began on November 28th at the BankAtlantic Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and continued on to Toronto, ON; East Rutherford, NJ; and Fresno, CA. The tour concludes this weekend with performances tomorrow Saturday, December 12th, at the MGM Grand Hotel (Las Vegas, NV) and Sunday, December 13th, at the Honda Center (Anaheim, CA).
The No.1 Latin album of the country, “Andrea Bocelli – Mi Navidad,” is available in two versions (1) the CD alone and (2) the ‘Deluxe Edition,’ which includes the CD and a DVD. The DVD contains 30 minutes of the Christmas special being broadcasted on PBS during this month of December.
