(Caracas, January 13, 2010)—An RBI by Raul Padron in the top of the ninth gave the Leones del Caracas the win 7-6 over the Bravos de Margarita in last Tuesday’s session of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball post season.
Padron’s RBI, which occurred at 10: 59 pm, prevented the game from ending without a winner as a result of the electricity rationing plan that went into effect in Venezuela by decree of the Venezuelan government; both the Leones and the Bravos had agreed to stop the game at 11:00 pm to evacuate the stadium an hour before the implementation of the rationing plan, but Padron’s RBI prevented such a situation from occurring.
The performance of Jose Castillo, whose offense was perfect, also stood out during the Leones’ victory. He went 3 for 3 with 1 homerun, 3 runs scored and 1 RBI.
The win was credited to Leones’ closer, Juan Carlos Gutierrez (1-0), working just one inning, in which he allowed two runs.Antonio Alfonseca was credited with the loss (0-1).
In Maracaibo, the Navegantes del Magallanes defeated 7-4 the Aguilas del Zulia.
Marcos Vechionacci’s 3 run homerun in the top of the 12th inning gave the Navegantes the win.
The victory went to the Navegantes’ reliever pitcher, Gabriel García (1-0), with two innings worked.
Amalio Díaz was credited with the loss (0-1).
