Rodriguez: 240 additional hours of production in the U.S. in 2010

Venevision International (VVI) is intensely working on the distribution and adaptation of its successful formats from the US Hispanic market to take them to other countries in Latin America.

Juan Andrés Rodriguez, VP of Production of VVI, told PRODU they are developing the format of Casos de Familia with SBT in Brazil, which has been produced for eight years in the U.S.; and the format for Necesito una amiga for Costa Rica, as well as soon for Ecuador and Panama. In addition, there is an opportunity to also produce it for the Anglo-Saxon Market in the U.S. where interest already exists.

“Also, in the formats area we are making a more aggressive effort in the telenovela formats (scripted) and we have reached agreements on scripts of several novelas that are very attractive, not only for the Hispanic market, but also for the Anglo,” he pointed out.

Rodriguez also mentioned that they are working on two telenovela projects; one of them is for Colombia with production starting in the next weeks.

The executive emphasized the considerable increase in production in the U.S., 240 hours in addition to the 1.200 or 1.300 average annual hours. “Our project is to be implemented starting in 2010,” he finalized.
