Teachers from the Liceo La Aurora de Heredia, Liceo Puriscal and Fray Casiano de Puntarenas schools completed two virtual courses on the culture of peace and conflict resolution through the technological platform on the website of AME (Actualización de Maestros en Educación)
www.ame.cisneros.org, the educational program for teachers.
On Tuesday June 9th, 70 teachers received a certificate of participation for the 120 hours of online learning. These professionals join the 8,000 teachers in Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Argentina and Venezuela that have received online training through the Fundación Cisneros.
This activity is part of the core program "Quality in teaching" that the MEP (Ministry of Public Education) developed during the current Administration with the goal of systematically increasing the quality of human resources in the education system and, in part, the faculty and administrative team, thus contributing to the professionalism and dignity of those who carry out these tasks.
According to Ileana Ruiz of the Uladislao Gámez Institute for Professional Development, this type of training allows teachers to learn to handle everyday situations with the help of technology without requiring long distance travel to improve their professional status. At the same time, it obliges teachers to remain informed of advances in technology while advancing their professions in teaching and education.
Leonardo Garnier, Minister of Public Education, attended the graduation and said the objective of teacher training is for students to receive more complete information, a task that can only be achieved if teachers are up to date in their fields.
Another 70 teachers will finish two more courses in July on the use of new technologies and health education. All courses are recognized by the Civil Service and supported by the Department of Public Education.
This virtual platform provides teachers with forums for easy visualization, online exams, file storage, email notifications, easy access to virtual classrooms, the opportunity to work in teams with participants from other countries and ways to evaluate courses.
