Venevision International Reinforces the Sale of Formats for MIPTV

Miami, FL  – Venevision International, the entertainment company part of the Cisneros Group, announced that (aside from its traditional programming offer of ‘telenovelas’, talk shows, and other genres) it will emphasize the sale of formats as an important element of the corporation’s proposal for MIPTV, which takes place at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, from March 30th to April 3rd, 2009.

“The emphasis on the sale of formats is in response to the company’s diversification strategy and the directive of our President and CEO Luis Villanueva,” explained Cesar Diaz, Vice President of Sales.  “From the point of view of the adaptation of our successful programs to other markets with different cultures or with the appropriate television production characteristics for this business, the sale of formats presents an opportunity for a company with products that have a proven successful track record in more than 104 countries.”

Venevision International ventured into the area of formats a few years back through an alliance with prominent and successful companies; but recently it assimilated an in-house structure, given the increasing opportunities the market presents.  The formats department at Venevision International works in two areas:  the first is the exploitation and adaptation of the company’s extensive catalog and the second is the creation of new formats, scripted as much as non-scripted.

“At the same token, we are not going to lose focus of what has made us an industry leader,” assured Cesar Diaz; “within our proposal for MIPTV, we will present eight captivating ‘telenovelas,’ among them are four recent productions that have already achieved success in markets where they are broadcasted.”

The four new ‘telenovelas’ that headline Venevision International’s vast proposal for MIPTV are: “La vida entera,” [For A Lifetime], starring Anastasia Mazzone and Jorge Reyes, is the story of a brilliant communications student and a famous journalist, who become involved as she writes her thesis on his career . . .  and although they’re complete opposites, passion flourishes - a glamorous women’s magazine is the setting of this fresh and original story; “Alma indomable” [Untamed Soul], with Scarlet Ortiz and Jose Angel Llamas, presents the story of a beautiful woman who is poor, wild, and uneducated . . . but her is full of big surprises as she becomes a supermodel and discovers her true parentage; “¿Vieja yo?” [Never Too Late], with Mimi Lazo and Adrian Delgado, is an intriguing ‘novela’ about a vibrant woman in her fifties who discovers it’s not too late to find happiness . . .  breaking away from the past and daring to live life to its fullest; and “Condesa por amor” [An Unlikely Countess], with Aileen Abad and Geronimo Gil, depicts the story of a young and simple working girl who is mistaken for a mysterious countess by a snobbish socialite . . .  she’s willing to play along if that’s what it will take to win over his love — but is she ready to face the consequences of this dangerous charade?

In addition, VVI will showcase the following successful ‘telenovelas’: “Valeria” [Valeria] (Alejandra Lazcano, Jorge Reyes, Carolina Tejera, and Carlos Caballero) is the story of a young woman who has found the man of her dreams, but a violent incident from her past comes back to haunt her . . .  and now even her greatest love becomes the victim of her revenge; “Torrente” [Torrent of Passions] (Maritza Bustamante and Luciano D’Alessandro) depicts that tale of two women who are best friends . . .  until love and motherhood gets in the way of their relationship; “Pobre millonaria” [Poor Millionaire] (Gianella Neyra, Jorge Aravena, Roxana Diaz and Eduardo Serrano) is an intriguing ‘telenovela’ about the love and defiance of a young and beautiful heiress – produced in the lush tropical setting of the Panama Canal; and “Amor comprado” [Love Contract] (Elizabeth Gutierrez and Jose Angel Llamas) is the story of a young woman who needs money to take care of her family . . .  he needs to get married in order to receive an inheritance - the result is a star-crossed love that alters their fates forever.

The MIPTV proposal also includes musical series, comedies, talk shows, and a series of attractive documentaries, as well as a variety of innovative television programs, such as the juvenile musical series now with two successful seasons, “Somos tu y yo” [You And Me], starring Sheryl Rubio and Victor Drija; a talk show that is also a dramatic series, “Necesito una amiga” [I Need A Friend], hosted by Fabiola Colmenares and Alejandra Maldonado; “Estudio Billboard” [Billboard Studio], interviews and performances by the hottest Latin artists in today’s market; the Programación Premium de Mega-TV [Premium Programming from Superstation Mega TV], original entertainment programs (talk shows, news magazines, series, etc.) from the innovative U.S.-based Hispanic superstation Mega-TV; and a collection of attractive documentaries, the “Serie platino de documentales” [Platinum Documentary Series], which includes “China through the Yangtze River,” among others.

MIPTV takes place at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France, from March 30th to April 3rd. Venevision International will be represented by Luis Villanueva, President & CEO; Manuel Perez, CFO; Cesar Diaz, Vice President of Sales; Jose Antonio Espinal, Vice President, Entertainment; Cristobal Ponte, Exclusive Independent Representative of VVI for Europe, Africa & Middle East; Miguel Somoza, Director of Sales for Asia and North America; Daniel Rodriguez, Director of Sales for Latin America; and Hector Beltran, Director of Formats & Production Services.  The Venevision International exhibit will be located at stand number: 14.02
