VeneMovies Premieres New On-Air Image


Miami, FL – VeneMovies, the Pay-TV 24-hour Spanish-language movie channel of SomosTV, an affiliate unit of Venevision International (the entertainment company part of the Cisneros Group), re-launched its on-air image with an new graphic package, which is also reflected on its Internet page (www.venemovies.com).  This new image corresponds with the new tendencies of channels in the cinematography genre amid the digital era, reinforcing VeneMovies’ position as the leader of contemporary Spanish-language films, not only for its movies, but also for its audience presentation.

VeneMovies was the first movie channel dedicated exclusively to films originally produced in Spanish to exist on the Pay-TV circuit in the U.S.  Launched in 2006, the channel has access to the best film library through Venevision International, and in 2008 acquired more than 120 titles of contemporary Spanish-language films, all recent productions (after 2002), originating from Spain, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina, Ecuador, Chile and Puerto Rico.  These acquisitions are representative of the diverse demographics of the communities that comprise the U.S. Hispanic market, featuring the best films, the industry’s brightest stars, and the biggest box-office hits of their originating countries.

“This new image, joined with the recent actualization of our technological transmission platform via satellite,” declared Alejandro Parisca, General Manager of SomosTV who presides over the channel, “gives VeneMovies the best signal among the market’s regular Spanish-language movie channels and competitive with the ‘Premium’ channels, excluding those of high definition.  As a position, it prepares us to make the technological transition to high definition at the opportune time, in coherence with our positioning as a ‘Premium’ movie channel among basic packages.”

Carlos Grimaldi, Artistic Director of SomosTV, commented that “the challenge was to be able to differentiate a new form of presenting movies in a manner that is elegant, attractive, sober, and in a certain way, timeless, with graphics that reflect the digital era in 3D.”  Grimaldi got inspiration from the perforations on actual film and used them as windows to a new era of digital images where light and silver, ochre and gold tones complement and frame the promotions and the station IDs.

VeneMovies is characterized by its innovative ‘Premium’ on-screen presence and for its use of interactive on-screen mechanisms, through the access it enjoys to Internet and mobile platforms that are part of Venevision International.  At the same time offers a remarkable collection of movies through Free Video On-Demand, which has broken records in the Spanish-language packages of many cable operators.

In this new stage, VeneMovies retains the slogan “¡Disfrútalo con Orgullo!” [Enjoy With Pride] as it reflects the impetus of offering a signal containing the best programming accompanied by an impressive graphic package that expresses to the audience a sentiment of pride of being Latino and being able to enjoy the best movies in Spanish.

VeneMovies has marketing and technical elements that make it unique, among them:  it’s the only Spanish-language movie channel produced entirely in the United States, which allows it to create and implement marketing strategies around key dates in the calendar of the U.S. Hispanic market and its communities.  By the same token, its signal is broadcasted through two satellite feeds, which allows it to schedule its primetime and promotions according to the time zones on both coasts, East and West.  This first-generation transmission characteristic is what also gives its on-air signal an eminent quality that is recognized by the industry.  The channel has become a favorite among viewers because of its cross-promotions at retail level though VVI’s Home Video division, which positions VeneMovies as the only Spanish-language movie channel in the United States with point-of-sale and store presence.
